Where was I? Lets see, Hanksville, Utah, Leprechaun Canyon, Monument Valley, Upper/Lower Antelope Canyon, Water Holes Canyon, Paria-Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, Zion National Park, Bryce National Park, Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument.

La Plata 14,336ft

My Wednesday morning started off with my alarm clock going off at 2:30am. Before 3am I had already signed in at the trailhead and began my trek for Ellingwood Ridge. Ellingwood Ridge is not the traditional trail for Colorado Fourteener La Plata, it requires some bushwacking, navigation and good luck. By 5am I was high on the ridge and closing in on the location I had scouted on a map. 5:30am I am sitting down enjoying a bagel with honey waiting for the sun to rise. 8am back at the trailhead, my day is done and I am off home.

One night in the Colorado High Country
Some recent shots from Monday night up at one of my favorite mountain locations, Mount Evans Wilderness Area, Colorado.
Mount Evans ridge comes alive from the summit of Mount Spalding, 13,842ft.

Tuesday morning is just beginning from the summit of Mount Warren, 13,307ft.

Warm sunrise light stikes Mount Evans.

Fiery Morning at Mount Evans 14,270ft

Once in a while the early bird wins and gets the worm. Or I should say the crazy morning hiker lucks out once in a while. I have attempting this shot a few times this year and have always been locked out due to the weather. After an early wakeup call and 2,000ft vertical gain, I was rewarded with my effort. This was taken this morning with my new digital toy, a Canon XSI body with a 70-200mm lens, it is a 4 panorama shot stitch, this is just a quick edit. At some point I will refine the image.
